To deal with the increasingly growing “hostile” use of mini drones, undetectable by conventional aerial surveillance systems, General Defence has developed innovative anti-drone systems (Counter-UAV System).

Initial detection of objects in the air is performed using a variety of radio, audio and video sensors, combining the strengths of the equipment and ensuring round-the-clock operation.

General Defence’s anti-drone uses machine learning to determine the presence of drones; the data are displayed on the user interface and offer a choice of countermeasures to implement.

The system can offer several complementary methods to combat UAVs, ranging from information for counter coordination, to the transmission of directional and/or omnidirectional signals.

What are UAVs?

Born in the military field, the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle – unmanned aircraft) is used in missions considered dangerous for aircraft with pilots on board, or in surveillance and reconnaissance missions, and has only extended its use in the last few years in the civil sector such as environmental monitoring and/or support for law enforcement agencies.

During the take-off and landing phases, these aircraft are piloted on the ground by an operator via a control station (Ground Control Station), thanks to a screen that displays all the on-board instruments, and a monitor connected to a camera mounted directly on the ‘UAV.

After take-off, the UAV faithfully follows the programmed flight plan without being remote controlled thanks to the GPS navigation system (the operator from the ground can control/intervene to vary the trajectory).

Inside there are: sensors for reconnaissance; devices designed to send the information collected; navigation systems; a GPS receiver; an inertial navigation system; infrared sensors.
